Botox® is an FDA approved neuromodulator designed to be injected into the muscles of the face that cause wrinkles. Botox® is made from a low, safe dose of a purified protein called botulinum toxin. Botox® temporarily forces the key facial muscles to relax, smoothing away lines and wrinkles to achieve a smoother, more youthful appearance.
Daxxify® is also an FDA approved injectable neuromodulator which is designed to achieve muscle relaxation by blocking nerve signals. Daxxify® is unique because it is the only formulation that utilizes a novel peptide as a stabilizer and does not contain human or animal byproducts. If certain patients have experienced short-term to no results from Botox®, Daxxify® may be a more appropriate option. Some patients may build up antibodies to the botulinum toxin in Botox® after multiple treatments.
Xeomin® is a precision-filtered neuromodulator designed to smooth dynamic wrinkles with unparalleled purity. While traditional neuromodulators contain various "accessory proteins," Xeomin® undergoes a sophisticated, state-of-the-art purification process that isolates only the essential active ingredients. Often referred to as the "Smart-Tox alternative" for the discerning patient, its streamlined composition is designed to provide a soft, authentic refreshed appearance while minimizing the risk of developing treatment resistance over time.
Younger patients who want to avoid the appearance of wrinkles use Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® as a preventative treatment, stopping the muscles from contracting earlier on in the aging process. Older patients use Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® to lessen the appearance of wrinkles already present.
Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® are attractive options for patients who want to smooth out unsightly wrinkles without the risks or unpleasant side effects or risks that can arise from plastic surgery. While Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® will not totally replace the need for procedures a plastic surgeon might oversee, a number of patients combine more intensive procedures with noninvasive cosmetic injectables like Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin®, or other types of Dermal Fillers to give an enhanced, youthful look without the significant downtime those procedures may need for healing.
When starting Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® injections, it can be intimidating assessing how many units needed for your specific treatment. While the correct amount of Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® injections can only be determined in a medical consultation with Robert Latham, MD, there are some basic measures for the number of units of Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® that are established by the company that produces Botox®, Daxxify® and Xeomin®, and are FDA approved.
In regards to Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® treatments, every patient is unique. The amount of Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® units needed for each patient varies greatly on how large the muscle is, how strong it is, the position of the muscle, and other elements. The strength of the muscles in the face, particularly the forehead muscles, plays a large part in how many units are needed. For example, if the facial muscles are stronger, more units are needed, however weaker facial muscles typically require less units. Some areas of the face possess stronger muscles than others, while other muscles may be stronger depending on usage (think of the muscles needed to form a smile). Gender also makes a significant difference when it comes to Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® treatments: typically, men have stronger facial muscles than women and will require more Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® units to achieve the desired results.
As a baseline of expectations for the first Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® treatment, here are the average units of Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® for the different areas of the face:
Forehead/Horizontal Lines: 10-40 Units
Frown Lines: 10-40 Units
Eyebrow Lift: 2-10 Units
Frown/Glabellar Lines (Between the Eyes): 10-40 Units
Crow’s Feet (or Outer Canthal Lines): 5-30 Units
Corners of the Mouth: 3-12 Units
Lip Lines: 2-8 Units
Marionette Lines: 2-12 Units
Chin: 2-12 Units
Daxxify® Full Strength: $16 per Unit, typically lasts 1.5-2 times longer than traditional neuromodulators. Usually, requiring less visits/treatments throughout the year.
Botox® Units start at $13 per Unit, with Unit prices decreasing with each visit. Botox® treatments become more cost effective with consistent visits: at $12.50 per Unit during the second visit (within a 4 month period), $12 per Unit during the third visit (within a 4 month period), and $11.50 per Unit during the fourth visit (within a 4 month period).
Xeomin® Units each start at $12 per Unit, with Unit prices decreasing with each visit. Xeomin® treatments also become more cost effective with consistent visits: at $11.50 per Unit during the second visit (within a 4 month period), $11 per Unit during the third visit (within a 4 month period), and $10.50 per Unit during the fourth visit (within a 4 month period).
Note: The final number of Units required will be determined during your personalized consultation with Dr. Latham or our Registered Nurse to achieve your specific aesthetic goals.

Do not touch or rub areas of injection until washing your face at night.

LIP FLIP
A Lip Flip utilizes Daxxify® injections to enhance the appearance of the lips. This non-surgical procedure enables the inner portion of the upper lip to shift outward and upward, temporarily increasing lip fullness. Typically, results start to appear after one week, and the injections give the lips a “poutier” look without adding volume. The result can be more natural looking than Dermal Fillers.

Botox®, Daxxify® & Xeomin® target one of the underlying causes of frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines - i.e. repeated muscle contractions due to smiling, frowning, squinting, and raising the eyebrows over the years. Robert Latham, MD, or a Registered Nurse will inject these muscles with Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® to temporarily reduce muscle activity. Patients will begin to notice frown lines between the brows, crow’s feet lines and forehead lines looking smoother for a temporary amount of time.

Botox®, Daxxify® & Xeomin® both consist of a protein derived from a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum. This protein relaxes and softens dynamic wrinkles in the target area by ceasing muscle contractions. However, the body begins to break down the protein over a period of time. This breakdown process can vary from patient to patient. The timeline of the protein breakdown can be affected by various factors, including which area of the face received treatment, exercise of the treatment area, sun exposure, other environmental toxins and metabolic rate.

Botox®, Daxxify® & Xeomin® treatments may or may not be the right answer for your esthetic goals. Also, it is important to note that Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® are not used as a treatments for sagging skin, but is ideal for dynamic wrinkles (the wrinkles made when contracting muscles).

Botox® starts working, with results typically appearing within 5 to 7 days. Depending on the severity of a patient's cosmetic concerns, lifestyle choices after treatment, and other factors, it may take 10 to 14 days to see the final results. With Daxxify®, patients can expect the initial results period to be cut in half. On average, Daxxify® results begin to show up around 2 to 3 days after treatment. The full effect of the Daxxify® treatment can take between 10 days and 2 weeks to develop. Xeomin® patients can begin to see results typically within 4 to 5 days, and will experience more prominent results appearing approximately 10 to 14 days after initial treatment.

While the effects of Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® will not last forever, patients can make efforts to maintain the effects for as long as possible. Some patients also schedule follow-up injections a few weeks after the initial treatment to prolong the positive effects. Incorporating the following tips can optimize the results of Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® treatments:

Combining Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® with Dermal Fillers can address the most commonly occurring facial esthetic issues. Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® are ideally used to selectively relax the facial muscles associated with unwanted wrinkles and lines, while Dermal Fillers are used to augment areas lacking volume, usually the cheeks and lips. Utilizing both procedures can create a significantly more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

Typically, no, Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® injections do not hurt. However, Botox®, Daxxify® & Xeomin® needles are about the same size used for insulin injections. Most often, the sensation of a Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® injection is comparable to the pinch felt when plucking an eyebrow hair or similar to a short bee sting. Most patients don’t report feeling pain from a Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® injection. Please note that each patient's level of pain tolerance is different, and this treatment is still an injection. Any discomfort felt can be reduced by using an ice pack or a topical numbing cream if needed.

Botox®, Daxxify® & Xeomin® are technique-sensitive treatments, which deliver natural-looking results in most patients. Meaning a patient will still look like themselves — only with less noticeable frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines. Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® treatments enhance the natural look of a patient's skin with subtle effects. They should not interfere with a patient's muscle movement or normal facial expressions. This means that people may compliment you on your smooth skin and renewed radiance, but they won’t know you had a Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® treatment!

No, a number of men utilize Botox®, Daxxify® & Xeomin® treatments for facial esthetics, which can boost self-confidence. Additionally, Botox®, Daxxify® & Xeomin® treatments are not contraindicated or less effective in men, so it is not true that only women can receive Botox®, Daxxify® or Xeomin® treatments. However, anatomic differences, i.e. skull size, higher hairlines, facial muscle thickness, and other factors may slightly increase male patients’ dose requirements.

No, it’s not advisable to use Botox®, Daxxify® & Xeomin® at the same time or within less than 3 months of each other. This combination could lead to serious side effects.
